Gamgee Launches Personalized mRNA Cancer Vaccines for Dogs, Aims for Cross-Species Application
Gamgee, a new biotechnology company, has launched with $4 million in seed funding to develop personalized mRNA cancer vaccines for dogs. The company's approach involves sequencing each dog's tumor to identify unique, tumor-specific neoantigens. These neoantigens are then encoded into an mRNA vaccine, designed to train the dog's immune system to recognize and attack its specific cancer. This initiative was inspired by the founder, Paul Conyngham, who developed a personalized treatment for his own rescue dog, Rosie, after traditional therapies failed. Rosie's treatment, which involved genomics, AI, and mRNA technology, laid the groundwork for Gamgee's platform. Clinical studies for these personalized vaccines are currently underway in Australia, with the company working to establish the appropriate regulatory pathways for patient-specific veterinary biologics in the U.S. Gamgee's long-term vision extends beyond veterinary medicine, aiming to make personalized mRNA vaccines accessible through veterinary oncol...
