Sioux Falls Documentary '24 Hours on 8th Street' Sells Out Screenings, Highlights Homelessness Challenges
A local documentary titled '24 Hours on 8th Street,' which explores homelessness in Sioux Falls, has sold out eight showings at The State Theatre downtown within a month. The film, produced by Sean Baker of Baker Street Productions, and local chef and businessman Rudy Navarrete, and directed by Everett Palmer, originated from a 24-hour project that evolved into a year-long investigation into the complexities of homelessness in the city. The documentary aims to shed light on the challenges faced by the unhoused community and the efforts of local organizations. Proceeds from each screening are dedicated to benefiting various local nonprofits and organizations that serve the unhoused population, including the Bishop Dudley Hospitality House, The Banquet, Midwest Street Medicine, St. Francis House, and South Dakota Urban Indian Health. The overwhelming demand for tickets has led to discussions about additional screenings and potential teaching opportunities.
