Farmers Demand Fertilizer Price Transparency Amid Rising Costs
Farmers and advocates have called on Congress to implement transparency reporting requirements in fertilizer pricing. During a U.S. Senate Agriculture, Nutrition and Forestry Committee hearing, stakeholders highlighted the challenges posed by rising fertilizer prices, exacerbated by global conflicts such as the war in Ukraine. Andy Green, a senior advisor at Center Market Strategies, emphasized the need for bipartisan efforts to enhance competition in the fertilizer sector. Trent Kubik, president of South Dakota Corn Growers, advocated for the Fertilizer Transparency Act of 2026, which would require the USDA to publish weekly market data on fertilizer prices.
