Harford County Farm Fair Showcases Agricultural Heritage and Education
The 39th annual Harford County Farm Fair is currently underway, highlighting the region's rich agricultural roots. With over 600 farms and 65,000 acres of preserved land, agriculture is a significant industry in Harford County. The fair features a variety of attractions, including fireworks, a motorcycle race, and carnival rides, but its primary focus is on agriculture and education. The event is particularly aimed at educating young people about the origins of their food and the importance of agriculture. This year, 180 4H students, aged 8 to 18, are participating by showcasing their animals, which they have cared for throughout the year. The fair serves as a platform for these students to demonstrate their skills in animal husbandry and to auction their animals. The event also addresses the challenges faced by the agricultural community, such as development pressures and rising land prices, which make it difficult for new farmers to enter the industry.
