Frederick Douglass Bridge Barricade Situation Persists as Activist Scales Structure
South Capitol Street at the Frederick Douglass Bridge in Washington D.C. has reopened after being closed due to a 'barricade situation' involving an activist who scaled one of the bridge's arches. The individual, identified as Guido Reichstadter, climbed the bridge on Friday, causing significant traffic disruptions, including impacts on the afternoon rush and a nearby baseball game at Nationals Park. Reichstadter, who previously scaled the bridge in 2022 following the overturning of Roe v. Wade, is protesting against what he describes as the 'Trump regime’s illegal war on Iran.' Despite the reopening of all outbound lanes, only one inbound lane remains open. D.C. Fire and EMS, along with a high-angle technical rescue team, are working with police to manage the situation.
