Gary Council Urges U.S. Steel to Implement Green Steel Technologies for Economic and Environmental Benefits
The Gary Common Council has unanimously passed a resolution urging U.S. Steel to adopt green steelmaking technologies at its Gary Works facility. The resolution, sponsored by Councilman Darren Washington, calls for the installation of a direct reduction furnace and other necessary facilities to modernize the plant. The council aims to work with U.S. Steel to ensure these green measures are implemented, which would protect jobs, enhance economic competitiveness, and improve public health. The resolution will be sent to various stakeholders, including Gary Mayor Eddie Melton and Indiana's U.S. Congress members, to garner broader support.
