Cuyahoga County Forfeits $1.2 Million in Lead Paint Grant Due to Spending Delays
Cuyahoga County has forfeited nearly $1.2 million of a state grant intended for lead paint remediation due to delays in spending the funds by the required deadline. The grant, part of Ohio's Lead Safe Ohio program funded by federal COVID-19 relief dollars, was aimed at making properties lead-safe. The county's failure to fully utilize the grant mirrors similar challenges faced by the city of Cleveland. The unspent funds were primarily designated for Cleveland and East Cleveland, areas with high lead poisoning rates.
