Colorado Celebrates 150th Statehood Anniversary with Mass Climb of Fourteeners
To commemorate Colorado's 150th anniversary of statehood, hundreds of residents participated in a mass climb of the state's 14,000-foot peaks, known as fourteeners. The event aimed to have climbers reach the summit of every fourteener simultaneously, inspired by a similar initiative during the 1976 centennial. The Colorado Fourteener Initiative (CFI) collaborated with the Forest Service to manage the event, which saw significant participation on peaks like Mount Bierstadt and Quandary Peak. Climbers, including families and first-timers, brought state flags and banners to celebrate the occasion. The event highlighted the popularity of outdoor recreation in Colorado and the importance of preserving natural landscapes.
