U.S. Army Requests 133,000 GMLRS Rockets by 2034 to Boost Stockpiles
The U.S. Army has issued a request for the manufacturing of 133,014 Guided Multiple Launch Rocket System (GMLRS) rockets by 2034. This initiative aims to significantly ramp up production of these ground-launched rockets, with contractors given until September 1 to submit white papers detailing their plans to meet this quota. The proposed timeline mandates the production of 19,002 rockets annually from 2028 to 2034, with initial deliveries expected to commence in February 2030. The scope of the contract encompasses production, tooling, engineering change proposals, and supporting activities for various GMLRS rocket types, including unitary, alternative warhead (AW), and extended-range (ER) versions. This request comes amidst ongoing concerns regarding the depletion of U.S. munitions stockpiles.
