Utah Lake Hosts Fireworks Show Amid Rising Melanoma Rates
Utah Lake is set to host a fireworks show for Pioneer Day, marking a first for the location. The event, organized by local and state representatives, will feature fireworks launched from two barges, with one best viewed by boat and the other from the shore. The show will include synchronized music available on FM 100.3. Meanwhile, Utah continues to report the highest melanoma rates in the country, nearly double the national average as of 2023. The increase in melanoma cases is attributed to factors such as the state's predominantly white population and a culture of outdoor recreation. Improved screening methods are also contributing to the higher detection rates of this skin cancer, which, while accounting for only 1% of skin cancers, causes the majority of skin cancer deaths.
