ACCT Philly Faces Overcrowding Crisis with Over 600 Animals
ACCT Philly, an animal shelter in Philadelphia, is experiencing a significant overcrowding crisis after taking in over 600 animals in just over a week. The shelter, which is typically at full capacity, has been forced to make difficult decisions due to the lack of space. Executive Director Sarah Barnett described the situation as unprecedented, with more than 400 cats and kittens, over 160 dogs, and other animals such as guinea pigs and wildlife, including an alligator, being housed. The shelter has already euthanized two dogs due to space constraints and is offering financial incentives to encourage fostering and adoption. The shelter is also waiving adoption fees on weekends throughout August and providing free spay and neuter services in certain areas to help manage the crisis.
