Beidelman Furniture Announces Closure After 165 Years in Naperville
Beidelman Furniture, the oldest business in Naperville and DuPage County, is set to close its doors at the end of the month. The announcement was made via a Facebook post by the family-owned business, which expressed gratitude to the community with the message, 'We will miss YOU!! Last day of Business will be April 29. Thank you for everything Naperville!!!' The store, which dates back to 1861, was originally established by cabinetmaker Frederick Long. It was later purchased by Long's nephew, Oliver J. Beidelman, and has remained in the family ever since. In 1928, the original wooden store was replaced with a three-story brick building, which was designated a city landmark in 2024. The Downtown Naperville Alliance acknowledged the store's historical significance, stating that Beidelman Furniture has been integral to the community's story and the lives of generations.
