U.S. Representative Bill Keating has won the Democratic primary for Massachusetts' 9th Congressional District, securing his party's nomination for what would be his ninth term in Congress. Keating, 73, decisively defeated his challenger, Craig Swallow, a 40-year-old former teacher and restaurant manager, by a margin of over 60 points, according to The Provincetown Independent. The Associated Press reported Keating garnered 77.5% of the vote compared to Swallow's 22.5%. Keating largely focused on his established record and committee roles, including his position on the House Foreign Affairs Committee, while Swallow campaigned on offering a younger, fresher perspective. This victory places Keating in the November general election, where he will face Republican Tyler Macallister, a commercial fisherman from Mattapoisett. The outcome reflects a broader trend in the Massachusetts Democratic primary where incumbents largely fended off challenges from younger, more progressive candidates.
