Richard Heinberg, Sustainability Advocate and Author, Passes Away at 75
Richard Heinberg, a renowned author and educator known for his work on sustainability, passed away on July 19, 2026, at the age of 75 due to pancreatic cancer. Heinberg was a prolific writer, having authored fourteen books and numerous articles on energy and sustainability issues. He served as a Senior Fellow at the Post Carbon Institute and was a former professor at New College in Santa Rosa. Heinberg's work focused on the energy crisis and the fate of industrial societies, and he was a respected voice in the field of sustainability. His contributions extended beyond writing, as he was also an accomplished musician and educator.
