San Diego Implements Rideshare Pickup Restrictions to Alleviate Gaslamp Quarter Congestion
San Diego has introduced new rideshare pickup restrictions in the Gaslamp Quarter, specifically targeting Fifth Avenue, to reduce congestion during peak weekend hours. The restrictions apply from 10 p.m. to 3 a.m. on Fridays and Saturdays, prohibiting rideshare pickups within a designated geofenced area. Uber has implemented geofencing technology to prevent pickups in these restricted zones, directing riders to walk to nearby approved locations. The city has established 14 designated pickup spots outside the geofenced area, marked with fresh white paint and labeled as three-minute passenger loading zones. While Uber has adapted to these changes, Lyft has not yet commented on the new restrictions.
