Seafarers' Union Strike Threatens Iceland's Eimskip Shipping Operations
The Seafarers’ Union of Iceland has issued a strike notice to Eimskip, a shipping company based in Iceland, due to stalled contract negotiations. The strike, set to begin on May 25, could affect three of Eimskip's 13 ships and 40% of its workforce at the Reykjavik terminal. The dispute centers on wages and job security, with complications arising from offshore companies employing some of the crews. Previous strike actions were postponed, but the union now indicates that a strike is likely unavoidable, which could disrupt shipping schedules and lead to delays.
