Food Inflation in the UK Set to Rise Again Due to Energy and Logistics Shocks
The Food & Drink Federation (FDF) has reported that food inflation in the UK is expected to rise again, reaching 9% to 10% by December 2026. This increase is attributed to structural shocks in energy and global logistics, which have disrupted supply chains. The briefing highlighted that damage to energy infrastructure in the Middle East, including refineries and gas plants, has significantly impacted production costs. These disruptions have led to higher prices for agricultural commodities, processing, logistics, and packaging, affecting the entire food production process.
