Revolutionary War Soldiers Receive Final Burial in New York After 250 Years
More than 40 Revolutionary War soldiers, whose remains were discovered in 2019, have been laid to rest with full military honors at Lake George Battlefield Park in New York. These soldiers, mostly young recruits in their teens and twenties, are believed to have died at a makeshift smallpox hospital during the Revolutionary War. The remains were unearthed during construction work and have since been analyzed by scientists to learn about their lives and deaths. The burial took place over Memorial Day weekend, with a solemn procession from the New York State Museum to the new Repose of the Fallen memorial in Lake George. This event marks a significant moment of remembrance as the nation approaches the 250th anniversary of the American Revolution.
