Miami's Bayshore Park: A Model for Resilient Urban Design
Bayshore Park in Miami Beach is a pioneering example of integrating nature-based solutions into urban infrastructure to combat the effects of climate change. The 19.4-acre park, designed by Savino & Miller Design Studio, replaces a former golf course with a landscape that absorbs stormwater and reduces urban heat. This transformation is crucial as Miami faces increased flooding due to heavy rains, frequent storms, and rising sea levels. The park's design includes bioswales, native plantings, and varied topography, which mimic natural wetlands and help manage water during heavy rainfall. This approach not only protects the city from flooding but also provides a green space for community recreation and ecological benefits.
