City of DeKalb Receives National Endowment for the Arts Grant for Lincoln Highway Mural
The City of DeKalb has been awarded a $15,000 grant from the National Endowment for the Arts (NEA) to support the new Lincoln Highway Mural. This federal grant is part of the NEA's partnership with the national Freedom 250 initiative, which celebrates the country's 250th anniversary and recognizes the arts' role in American life and heritage. The mural, located at the northwest corner of East Lincoln Highway and Seventh Street, was completed by artist Kirsten Sandlin ahead of the Fourth of July holiday as part of the America 250 DeKalb commemoration. It features a design that celebrates American achievement and the DeKalb community. In addition to the NEA grant, a local engineering firm, Fehr Graham Engineering and Environmental, has contributed a financial donation to the mural project. The City's public art programs also receive partial support from a grant from the Illinois Arts Council.
