Anxious Remote Worker Wins Lawsuit Over Video Call Camera Requirement
Laura Tait, a remote travel consultant, successfully sued her former employer, Holiday Extras, for disability discrimination after being forced to turn on her camera during a video call. The employment tribunal in South London ruled that the company failed to provide reasonable adjustments for Tait's anxiety, such as allowing her to join meetings with the camera off and reducing voice call duties. Tait, who experienced work-induced stress and anxiety, had requested more live chat and email shifts instead of phone or video calls. Despite her requests, she was required to participate in a video call, which exacerbated her anxiety. The court found that Holiday Extras did not accommodate her needs, leading to a ruling in her favor. Tait's compensation will be determined at a later date.
