Chevron Halts Petronius Production as Tropical Storm Bertha Nears Gulf Coast
Chevron has temporarily shut down production at its Petronius facility in the U.S. Gulf of Mexico and evacuated all personnel to shore as Tropical Storm Bertha approaches the northern Gulf Coast. The company has also transported nonessential personnel from its Tubular Bells and Blind Faith platforms while implementing storm preparedness measures at onshore facilities. According to the National Hurricane Center, Tropical Storm Bertha is expected to bring heavy rainfall, storm surge, and strong winds to portions of the U.S. Gulf Coast in the coming days. The Gulf of Mexico is a critical region for U.S. energy production, accounting for 13% of the nation's crude oil output and about half of its refining capacity.
