Colorado Announces Lower Premium Rate for FAMLI Program in 2027
Colorado Governor Jared Polis and the state's Department of Labor and Employment (CDLE) have announced a reduction in the premium rate for the Colorado Family and Medical Leave Insurance (FAMLI) program. Starting in 2027, Coloradans will pay a lower premium rate of 0.86%, down from the initial 0.9% set in 2023 and a planned 0.88% for 2026. This adjustment is described as a 'win-win' situation, allowing workers to retain more of their earnings while helping businesses save money. The FAMLI program, which began distributing benefits in 2024, provides eligible workers with up to 12 weeks of paid leave for various reasons, including serious health conditions, caring for a loved one, or family military deployment. Colorado's program was also the first in the nation to extend benefits to families with infants receiving intensive care.
