Savannah Lay Leader Martin Noriega Named Lumen Christi Award Finalist for Ministry Work
Martin Noriega, a lay leader within the Diocese of Savannah, has been recognized as one of eight national finalists for the Catholic Extension Society’s prestigious Lumen Christi Award. This honor acknowledges individuals who exemplify and spread the 'light of Christ' through their service in missionary dioceses. Noriega's journey to this recognition began after a significant life change. Previously, he worked as a weekend DJ, spending his nights in bars and clubs. A pivotal moment occurred during a religious retreat, which he initially attended by chance due to a rare free weekend. This experience led him to a profound realization and a decision to dedicate his life to faith. Instead of abandoning his musical talents, Noriega chose to integrate them into his new path, now overseeing all music for the retreats he leads. For nearly two decades, Noriega has served as president of the Movimiento Juan XXIII (John XXIII Movement) in the Diocese of Savannah, focusing on faith revitalization and musical ministry.
