Hokkaido Airports Targets Southeast Asia Expansion with A321XLR Opportunities
Hokkaido Airports is focusing on expanding its reach into Southeast Asia and long-haul markets, leveraging the potential of the Airbus A321XLR to enhance connectivity. The operator manages seven airports in northern Japan and aims to balance strong winter demand with year-round growth. Traffic from Southeast Asian countries like Thailand, Malaysia, Singapore, and the Philippines has increased, driven by outbound demand and capacity growth. The introduction of the A321XLR is expected to enable more efficient point-to-point routes. Despite challenges with seasonality, Hokkaido Airports anticipates handling 32.5 million passengers in fiscal 2025-26.
