Afghanistan Faces Rising Child Malnutrition Amid Aid Cuts, Warns World Food Program
The World Food Program (WFP) has reported that child malnutrition in Afghanistan has reached critical levels, affecting a third of the country's provinces. This crisis is exacerbated by funding shortfalls that have forced the WFP to scale back food distributions and other support services. The situation is dire, with many children suffering from acute malnutrition, a condition known as wasting, which requires immediate therapeutic feeding. The WFP has highlighted the impact of conflict, unemployment, rising food prices, and reduced humanitarian funding as contributing factors to the crisis. The agency urgently needs $540 million over the next six months to address these challenges.
