Halsey Institute and Avery Research Center Collaborate on 'Grounded in Grain, Washed in the Water' Exhibition
The Halsey Institute of Contemporary Art and the Avery Research Center are jointly presenting an exhibition titled 'Grounded in Grain, Washed in the Water.' This collaborative project delves into ancestral narratives and explores the intricate connections between land, water, memory, and the experiences of Black life in the American South. The exhibition features works by four artists: Corey Alston, Derrick Beasley, Christa David, and Maya Freelon. It is scheduled to run through December 5. In conjunction with the exhibition, a symposium named 'Making and Remembering' will be held on September 26. This symposium will include a panel discussion, a film screening, and a question-and-answer session, offering deeper insights into the themes explored in the art. The Halsey Institute is located at 161 Calhoun St., while the Avery Research Center for African American History and Culture is situated at 125 Bull St.
