United Nigeria Airlines Chairman Challenges Negative International Perception of Nigeria Ahead of Global PR Forum
Professor Obiora Okonkwo, Chairman of United Nigeria Airlines, has publicly stated his belief that Nigeria's international image is often misrepresented and does not reflect the country's true reality. Speaking at a reception hosted by the Nigerian Institute of Public Relations (NIPR) in Abuja, Okonkwo emphasized his commitment to Nigeria, asserting that he cannot envision permanently relocating despite the 'Japa' trend of Nigerians seeking opportunities abroad. He highlighted his extensive international experience as a basis for understanding the disparity between global perceptions and the actual situation in Nigeria. Okonkwo's remarks come as Nigeria prepares to host the World Public Relations Forum and the 37th African Public Relations Association Conference from November 15 to 21, 2026. He views this upcoming event as a significant opportunity for Nigeria to showcase its resilience, diversity, and capacity to an international audience, potentially altering long-held negative perceptions.
