UK Government Expands Advanced Manufacturing with Major Gigafactory Investment
The UK Government has announced a significant expansion in advanced manufacturing through a new gigafactory project in Somerset, developed by Agratas. This initiative involves over £700 million in combined public and private investment, with £380 million coming from government funding. The facility aims to boost the UK's battery manufacturing capacity, particularly for electric vehicles (EVs), and is expected to create approximately 4,200 jobs. Once operational, the gigafactory is projected to contribute an estimated £43 billion to the economy over 25 years. The project is part of a broader strategy to enhance the UK's position in advanced manufacturing and support the transition to EVs.
