FIFA Bans Refillable Water Bottles Amid Heat Concerns for 2026 World Cup
FIFA has updated its 'Stadium Code of Conduct' to prohibit fans from bringing refillable water bottles into the 16 stadiums hosting the 2026 World Cup across the U.S., Mexico, and Canada. This decision comes as temperatures are expected to reach 90°F (32°C) or higher in many host cities. FIFA has announced measures to mitigate heat risks, including misting stations, hydration points, and cooling tents outside stadiums. Inside, water and other beverages will be sold exclusively by Coca-Cola, a long-time FIFA sponsor. The policy has drawn criticism from fan groups, who argue it limits access to free water in potentially extreme heat conditions. FIFA has also introduced three-minute drinks breaks during matches to protect players and referees from heat-related risks.
