Christchurch Airport Reports 22% Surge in International Visitors, Boosting Local Economy
Christchurch Airport has experienced a significant increase in international visitors, with a 22% rise compared to the previous year. Between November 2025 and March 2026, the airport welcomed 287,000 international visitors, contributing $861 million to the South Island economy. The growth is attributed to increased airline capacity and strategic partnerships with tourism operators. Australia remains the largest source market, followed by China, which saw a 100% increase in visitors due to enhanced flight connections and visa changes. The airport's development team has played a crucial role in securing more flights and larger aircraft, facilitating easier access to the region.
