American Lung Association Report Highlights Air Pollution Impact on Illinois Children
The American Lung Association's recent 'State of the Air' report reveals that over 2 million children in Illinois are exposed to unhealthy air pollution levels. The Chicago-Naperville metro area ranks as the 15th most polluted in the U.S. for ozone pollution, receiving an F grade. Statewide, approximately 2.2 million children are affected by poor air quality. Nationwide, 33.5 million children, or 46% of those under 18, live in areas with failing air quality grades. The report notes some improvements in particle pollution but highlights worsening ozone impacts. Kristina Hamilton, the association's director of advocacy, emphasizes the health risks posed by air pollution, including asthma attacks and chronic health conditions.
