Nebraska School District Bans Cell Phones Bell-to-Bell After Study Reveals Significant Distraction
Brady Public Schools in Nebraska has implemented a strict new policy banning personal electronic devices, including cell phones, smartwatches, and tablets, from the first bell to the final dismissal. Students are now required to store their devices in locked, numbered boxes throughout the school day. This decision followed an in-house study where seventh through 12th-grade students reported receiving an average of over 40 notifications in just 15 minutes. Superintendent Ann Foster stated that a 'bell-to-bell' ban was deemed the best approach to protect the school environment and ensure students can focus on their education without constant digital distractions. Principal Samantha Pavelka noted that the constant buzzing made focus 'almost impossible.'
