Spanish Health Minister Rejects Proposal for Migrant Confinement in Ceuta
Mónica García, the Spanish Minister of Health, has publicly rejected a proposal by Alberto Núñez Feijóo, leader of the opposition Popular Party, to confine migrants in Ceuta due to alleged sanitary risks. Feijóo's suggestion was based on concerns about infectious diseases such as scabies and tuberculosis among the migrant population. Minister García stated that such a measure is not only unjustified but could also be counterproductive and disproportionate, especially when public health is the stated justification. She emphasized that existing surveillance systems are active for these common diseases and that confirmed diagnoses lead to isolation and contact tracing according to established protocols.
