Wife Barred from Testifying in Record-Breaking New Jersey Divorce Case Due to Alleged Hacking and Evidence Tampering
Laura Overdeck, estranged wife of hedge fund mogul John Overdeck, has been barred by a New Jersey Family Court judge from testifying or presenting affirmative evidence in their divorce case. Judge Bruce Buechler ruled that Ms. Overdeck engaged in "multiple discovery abuses," including illegally accessing her husband's private computer to photograph emails with his lawyers, breaking into his post office box, and deleting evidence from her phone. Despite court orders, her phone was not produced for 13 months, and the relevant images had been deleted. Ms. Overdeck is seeking $6.2 billion from her husband, representing a 35% stake in his $80 billion hedge fund, Two Sigma. Her attorneys have called this the most expensive contested divorce in New Jersey's history. While she cannot present her own evidence or call expert witnesses, the judge emphasized that the Overdeck fortune will still need to be equitably distributed.
