Gordie Howe International Bridge Opens to Pedestrians and Cyclists
Starting August 5, the Gordie Howe International Bridge will open its multi-use path to pedestrians and cyclists, allowing them to cross between Detroit and Windsor, Ontario, without a toll. This path, separated from vehicle traffic by concrete barriers, will be the only legal crossing for pedestrians and cyclists between Michigan and Canada. Travelers must pass through dedicated customs facilities and present valid travel documents. The Detroit Greenways Coalition, which has long advocated for such a connection, has organized a bike tour to celebrate the opening. The path connects to the Joe Louis Greenway, enhancing access to Detroit's trail network.
