Grieving Family Criticizes New York Sanctuary Laws After Student's Death
The family of Sheridan Gorman, an 18-year-old student from Westchester County, New York, who was killed by an illegal migrant in Chicago, has publicly criticized Governor Kathy Hochul and New York Democrats. They are demanding a reversal of the state's new sanctuary laws, which they believe contributed to their daughter's death. The accused, Jose Medina, a Venezuelan migrant, had previous run-ins with law enforcement but was released multiple times. The family, supported by local politicians, argues that the sanctuary policies prevent effective law enforcement and endanger public safety. Governor Hochul's spokesperson defended the laws, stating they focus on actual criminals rather than assisting ICE operations.
