Getty Center to Close for Major Renovations Starting March 2027
The Getty Center in Los Angeles has announced a major renovation project that will close the museum for a year starting March 15, 2027. The renovations, estimated to cost between $600 million and $800 million, will include upgrades to the iconic tram, gallery spaces, and visitor facilities. The project aims to enhance the visitor experience and improve sustainability across the campus. The Getty Villa will remain open during this period, hosting additional programming and some of the Getty Center's artworks. The renovations are timed to coincide with the 2028 Summer Olympics in Los Angeles, ensuring the museum is ready to welcome international visitors.
