University of Toronto and University of Pennsylvania Develop In-Ear Sleep Modulation System
Researchers from the University of Toronto and the University of Pennsylvania have developed an innovative in-ear system-on-chip designed for sleep modulation. This system includes modules for recording electroencephalograms from the ear canal, generating audio, and transmitting data wirelessly. A key feature is its convolutional-neural-network-based model, which can classify sleep stages with 98.3% accuracy. The system is compact, fitting into a 3D printed earbud, and operates with low power consumption.
