Egypt Expands Testing for Sustainable Plastics in Partnership with UNIDO and Japan
Egypt is enhancing its capacity to test environmentally sustainable alternatives to single-use plastics through a collaboration with the United Nations Industrial Development Organization (UNIDO) and Japan. This partnership has equipped the General Organization for Export and Import Control with specialized laboratory equipment to improve the testing and conformity assessment of plastic products and their alternatives. The initiative aims to support Egyptian manufacturers and exporters, facilitating the country's transition towards a circular economy. This development is part of a broader trend in emerging economies where development financing is increasingly directed towards integrated investments in climate resilience, digitalization, food systems, health security, sustainable industry, and human capital.
