Japan Conducts First Tomahawk Missile Test Aboard JS Chokai with U.S. Support
Japan's Ministry of Defense announced the successful live-fire test of a Tomahawk cruise missile from the Aegis guided-missile destroyer JS Chokai. Conducted in the Pacific Ocean on July 29, the test was part of Japan's Tomahawk acquisition program, supported by the U.S. Navy. This marks Japan as the third country outside the U.S. to fire a Tomahawk from a surface combatant. The test confirmed the ship's and crew's ability to execute the launch sequence and verified the missile's flight to its target. Operational details, such as the test location and missile specifications, were withheld for security reasons.
