Maine State Workers Secure 4.5% Raise and $2,000 Bonuses in Tentative Contract Agreement
The administration of Governor Janet Mills and the state employees union in Maine have reached a tentative contract agreement, concluding a prolonged bargaining dispute that extended over a year past the previous contract's expiration. The proposed deal includes a 4.5% raise and a one-time $2,000 lump-sum payment for thousands of executive branch workers. This agreement, which covers employees through June 2027, still requires ratification by the union membership. The Maine Service Employees Association (MSEA) informed its members of the details, which were subsequently confirmed by Sharon Huntley, spokesperson for the Department of Administrative and Financial Services. The union's bargaining team characterized the settlement as a hard-won compromise, achieved through collective pressure that pushed the state beyond its prior offers, including a 'last, best and final' proposal.
