Extreme Weather Challenges U.S. Farms Amid Record Drought and Wildfires
The United States is experiencing severe weather conditions that have significantly impacted agricultural operations across the country. According to Iowa Public Radio, La Niña has contributed to warmer and drier winters, leading to record-breaking temperatures in Oklahoma and eight other states. These conditions have fueled extreme wildfires, particularly in the Great Plains, with Nebraska witnessing its largest blaze in history. Over one million acres have burned in Nebraska alone, with additional fires affecting Texas, Nevada, and New Mexico. The National Integrated Drought Information System reports that over 60% of the lower 48 states are currently experiencing drought, with Texas facing extreme conditions. Farmers are adapting by implementing irrigation systems and relocating livestock to mitigate damage from fires and drought.
