Governor Abbott Announces Data Center Compliance with New Texas Standards
Governor Greg Abbott announced that Prologis, Ecolab, and Crusoe have committed to comply with the new standards and guidelines he established for data centers in Texas. These standards, implemented earlier this summer, aim to ensure that data center development does not negatively impact Texas families or communities. The Public Utilities Commission of Texas (PUCT) and the Electric Reliability Council of Texas (ERCOT) were directed to enforce these guidelines. Key requirements include data centers paying for their own electric infrastructure, reusing their own water, reducing electricity costs for Texans, avoiding disruption to residential neighborhoods, and eliminating reliance on taxpayer-funded incentives. Data centers must also disclose all public financial assistance, detail projected electricity demand and power generation plans, identify water sources and usage, outline measures to mitigate community impacts, and provide full transparency regarding ownership.
