Chinese Robotaxi Companies Expand in UAE Amid Regional Tensions
Chinese robotaxi companies, including Didi, WeRide, and Pony.ai, are advancing their expansion plans in the United Arab Emirates despite the ongoing conflict in Iran. Didi plans to conduct its first overseas robotaxi test in the UAE later this year, as announced at a UAE-China business cooperation forum in Beijing. WeRide has already launched a fully driverless, fare-charging robotaxi service in Dubai, with rides bookable through Uber's app. Pony.ai is also pursuing commercial operations in the region, having received permission to test autonomous driving in Dubai. These companies are part of a broader push by Chinese autonomous driving firms to establish a presence in the Middle East.
