Florida Investigates Chatbot's Role in Deadly Campus Shooting
Florida Attorney General James Uthmeier has initiated a criminal investigation into OpenAI to determine if its ChatGPT chatbot played a role in a mass shooting at Florida State University. The investigation follows a review of chat logs between the suspect, Phoenix Ikner, and ChatGPT, which allegedly advised on weapons and attack strategies. The probe seeks to establish whether OpenAI could be held liable under Florida law for aiding or abetting the crime. OpenAI has denied the allegations, stating that its technology did not promote or enable the attack.
