Habitat for Humanity Report Reveals Three in Four Globally Cut Essentials to Afford Housing
A new global research report by Habitat for Humanity International, titled 'Home at What Cost?', reveals that three out of four people worldwide are cutting back on essential expenses to afford housing. The report, based on surveys of 30,000 individuals across 22 countries, highlights that housing costs extend beyond rent or mortgage payments, encompassing the sacrifices people make to secure a home. One-third of respondents (33%) are spending less on food, 32% are depleting savings or emergency funds, and 13% are delaying or avoiding medical care. These trade-offs disproportionately affect those already vulnerable, including individuals in informal housing (89%), lower-income groups (85%), and younger generations (81% of Gen Z and Millennials).
