Tropical Waves and Potential Cyclone Development in the Atlantic and Pacific
As of August 10, 2026, the National Hurricane Center (NHC) is monitoring three areas of interest in the Atlantic Ocean. Two tropical waves have emerged from Africa near the Cabo Verde Islands. The first wave, located between the Cabo Verde Islands and the Lesser Antilles, has a low 10% chance of development over the next seven days due to strong wind shear in the Caribbean. The second wave, located south of the Cabo Verde Islands, has a medium 60% chance of development and could become a tropical depression later this week. Additionally, a trough of low pressure near Bermuda has a very low 10% chance of development as it moves into cooler waters. In the Northeast Pacific, the NHC is tracking three systems, including Invest 93C, which has a 90% chance of developing into a tropical depression by August 17 and could pose a threat to Hawaii.
