Singapore Launches Green Shipping Service to Reduce Maritime Emissions
Pacific International Lines (PIL) and PSA International, with support from DNV, have launched Singapore's first joint land-sea green value-added service for cargo transhipped through the Port of Singapore. This service allows shippers and cargo owners to achieve verifiable emissions reductions by using lower-carbon fuels across various transportation modes. The initiative is part of a Memorandum of Understanding signed in March 2025 to advance carbon emissions measurement and reporting in the maritime sector. Trials for the service are set to begin in May. PIL's Chief Commercial Officer, Lionel Patrice Chatelet, emphasized the importance of carbon insetting to reduce emissions within the company's operations, while DNV's Executive Director, Mikkel Skou, highlighted the role of a trusted data ecosystem in delivering measurable emissions reductions.
