Study Reveals Vitamin D3 Supplements More Effective Than D2 for Immune Health
Recent research published in Nutrition Reviews has highlighted significant differences between two common forms of vitamin D supplements: D2 and D3. The study, conducted by researchers from the University of Surrey, the John Innes Centre, and the Quadram Institute Bioscience, found that D2 supplements can lead to lower levels of D3 in the body, sometimes even lower than in individuals who do not take any supplements. This discovery challenges the previously held belief that D2 and D3 are interchangeable. The research suggests that D3 is more effective in supporting immune health and bone strength, particularly during the winter months when natural sunlight exposure is limited. Emily Brown, the lead author, emphasized that D3 could be the better choice for most individuals, depending on their personal health needs.
